Water supply disrupted
ITANAGAR, Jul 06: With the monsoon playing spoilsport like it does every year, water supply to Naharlagun and Nirjuli Township has again disrupted.

Association seeks subject teachers

Education Awareness Camp at Ngissa
ITANAGAR, Jul 06: Tirap-
The participating students were taught about the importance of education, work culture, hard work and harmful effects of opium addiction during the camp.
Banwang Losu, the author of Wancho script’ and Nepha Wangsa conducted the camp which was attended by a total of 85 students from Ngissa, Nginu, Kaimoi, Khogla and Longkai villages.
It was revealed during interaction with the participating students that the schools in their areas have been running without sufficient teachers, school infrastructure like desk, benches and tables.
The awareness camp aimed at encouraging increased participation of students from rural and remote areas in education.
Earlier, the camp was inaugurated by Wakka ZPM Matpho Kolong. A condolence meeting was also held to pray for eternal peace of the departed soul of Lt. Wangno Wangsa, the first GB of the area.

Capital Complex authority carries out drive against Govt. land encroachers
ITANAGAR, Jul 06: Capital Complex administration carried out yet another drive against Government land encroachers within RoW (right of way) of sector roads and those who have constructed building within 4m of government quarters.

The District Administration in coordination with the Housing Department, GoAP, has already carried out a survey of all the encroached government quarters in selected sectors in Itanagar and necessary action, including criminal and eviction of such unauthorized occupants of government quarters would be initiated in the near future.
The District Administration has once again appealed to all the residents of capital complex not to construct any building within the defined RoW of National Highway and sector roads and within a distance of 4M from govt. quarters.
Those found violating the rules would be dealt sternly as per rules, Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner cautioned in a release. DIPRO
Protestors continue to demand capital punishment
ITANAGAR, Jul 06: Women Wings of All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) and All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) have jointly organized a rally to register their strong protest against the rape and murder of a minor girl at Bhalukpong and demanded to hang the rapist till death. The rally was taken out from Akash Deep complex here and culminated at Raj Bhawan.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, women’s wing president and Secretary of ANYA and ANSU have appealed each and everyone of the society to support the demand so that justice done to the aggrieved family.
They said that death penalty will act as deterrent to such heinous crime against women in the state.
They also demanded the State Government to adopt law to protect women from rape and other crimes.

Family seeks exemplary punishment to rapist
ITANAGAR, Jul 06: Shocked by the gruesome and inhuman act of rape and murder of a minor at Bhalukpong on July 02 last, Rangmo Welfare Society (RWS) today appealed to the state government to give exemplary punishment to the culprit.
In an email release RWS advisor Kata Rangmo said that there are no words to describe the cruelty of the incident. “Being an aggrieved parent, I earnestly appeal to the law enforcing agency and authority concerned to deliver justice to an infant, so that such harrowing incident should not happen to anyone in the future,” Rangmo said. Further he said that family and society are overwhelmed by the support and cooperation of the people of the state particularly people of Bhalukpong ‘who stood by us cutting across the communal line at the hours of grief.’ RWS states that the society is also thankful to the various organizations of the state such as All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union, All Nyishi Youth Association, Nyishi Elite Society, State Women Commission and other organizations for their unwavering support. The Society is also thankful to the state media for constant support in pursuit of justice to an infant by highlighting the incident. It also appealed to the people not to communalize or politicize the issue, saying that criminal should not be spared.

I remember long time back I had written in this daily about the importance of road side plantation in our state. Keeping recent developmental projects in mind, I would like to discuss the same topic once more. It is important that the trees that we are losing every passing day must be compensated by one way or the other. Road side plantation is one of the least efforts we can do in this regard. Road side plantation has many advantages. In this scorching summer, it will be a great relief to both the pedestrian and the vehicle owners to walk/drive under pleasant shade of trees. Besides adding to the beauty of the township, it will also absorb the dusts generated by the ever increasing traffic. No doubt it will also be a boon for our beautiful friends like birds and butterflies too. And given the cool environment for driving, a lot of fuel will also be saved by not turning on the ACs!

ITANAGAR, Jul 06: Dree, the major agricultural festival of Apatani Community was celebrated in various district headquarters and other places throughout Arunachal Pradesh.
At Aalo Mopin Ground, Dree was celebrated with traditional fervor yesterday.
On the occasion, Parliamentary Secretary Home, Geology & Mining, Gadam Ete extended his wishes to all and said that it should be celebrated in better manner.
Dree is the agriculture related festival for bumper harvest, peace, and prosperity and brotherhood among all the communities and added that festival gives an opportunity for exchange of our rich culture. He encouraged for large participation from the district. The government under the leadership of Nabam Tuki is always committed to help for the development and preservation of the rich culture and heritage of the state.
Deputy Commissioner Monoj Kumar Sahoo also extended his Dree wishes to each and everyone on the occasion. He lauded the rich cultural heritage and its uniqueness and systematic celebration of Dree Festival.
One should not let the wind of change and modernity to dilute our rich culture and tradition, every effort should be made to preserve one’s own culture and identity, Sahoo added.

Mudang Challyang and his Valeriana jatamansi cultivation
ZIRO, Jul 06: After successfully completing his Village Botany course from the State Medicinal Plant Board in 2012, Mudang Challyang has devoted himself in the subject and is trying his best to disseminate his knowledge to common masses of Apatani community.
Recently, he has planted more than 15,000 medicinal plants (grass) called ‘Valeriana Jatamansi’ in his bamboo garden with the guidance of Horticulture department, Ziro.
Generally, excepting few pine trees and other plant species nothing is grown in bamboo gardens of Apatanis. The ground is normally covered with wild grasses or bushes.
The department of horticulture is attempting for integrated gardening by growing “Valeriana Jatamansi” in bamboo garden. Local Valeriana Jatamansi grass is also available in Ziro. Challyang has planted both local and departmentally provided varieties to cross examine the yielding capacity and quality.
If successful, it can generate some extra income for the local people.
Challyang is also working for finding more locally available medicinal plants and has discovered more than 70 species.

Addressing the gathering, ADC Oti Dai said, “The Panchayat Raj Institution is for empowering the rural masses and to begin the process of planning from the grass root level. For this there should be proper interaction and coordination between the officers and the PRI members. A good beginning has been made and I hope that it will help in ushering a new era of development in the area.”
ASMs and the AS Chairpersons while highlighting the various needs and demands in their respective areas, appealed all the officers to lend their cooperation and help them to initiate proper planning process. They wanted them to take them into confidence regarding any ongoing schemes and development activities in their areas. The Chairpersons also appealed all the members to maintain the team work and to know their duties.
Nanom Megu while sharing her experiences urged the lady members to be more active. Oling Perme appealed all to take up Siku bridge matter at the appropriate level as this is the only life line of the area.
The officers of various departments like Education, ICDS, Block Devlopment, RWD, PHE briefed about the activities taken up by their respective departments. They also assured to lend full support and cooperation to the PRI leaders and invited all to collect any kind of information from their offices.
After threadbare discussions it was adopted that demand for ADC (Independent) HQ, Mebo, CO Office and its infrastructural development at Namsing will be taken up. All the ongoing schemes and other activities of the departments to be brought to the knowledge of the PRI members. It was also resolved that the Anchal Bhawans at Mebo and Pasighat to be properly maintained and the Taro Tamak Ghat to be managed by the Anchal Samity. Demand for regular supply of electricity was also adopted. It was also unanimously decided that concerned authority will apprised of the threat of the Siku bridge so that the only lifeline is not disrupted.

NSS seminar on National Integration
ITANAGAR, Jul 06: The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of VKV, Itanagar conducted a seminar on the topic, ‘National Integration: Challenges and Solutions’ at the school today.
Attending the programme, NSS State Liaison Officer Dr. VN Sharma encouraged the students to involve themselves in social service and stressed on imbibing moral qualities, like dedication, discipline, cooperation, brotherhood by students.
Explaining the motto of NSS “Not Me But You,” Dr. Sharma said that one of the main purposes of NSS is to develop personality of students through community services.
“There four crore NSS volunteers all over the country and they are regularly organizing blood donation camps, Shramadan (labour), adventure programme etc.,” he informed, adding that NSS activity is compulsory for all students of IITs in the country.
Twenty higher secondary level students enthusiastically participated in the seminar and shared their views on the key theme.
Prizes were given to three best participants by the Principal of the school.

Monthly Coordination Meeting held
AALO, Jul 06: Monthly Coordination meeting was held under the chairmanship of West Siang district Deputy Commissioner, M. K. Sahaoo in his office conference hall yesterday with all HoDs.
Sahoo requested all HoDs to submit the relief contribution towards the victims of Uttarakand. While appreciating the installation of biometric attendance he directed all the HoDs not leave the station without proper permission.
Regarding encroachment in government land, he advised them to report district administration and coordinate with land department for proper solution and eviction if any. Regarding disaster management he directed to draw contingency plan and appointment of nodal officer in all the departments, clearance of drainage system in order to avoid any water logging in the township area.
He further stressed on proper maintenance of approach roads of township, distribution of school uniform, textbooks and mid day meals at all the schools, immediate posting of medical staffs at PHC Monigong and initiation of school health management programme. With response to the employment scheme of state government he directed all the departments to submit the reports on monthly basis as per prescribed format. DFCSO was asked to stock essential commodities.
While appreciating the highest ever collection of monthly revenue during the month of May 2013 by all the revenue holding departments he directed all HoDs to clear their electricity outstanding dues and appealed for more concentration on revenue collection. All the problems of the departments were also discussed in length.
